Last Week: while meeting with Town & Country flooring, in Truckee, to order flooring for the Tahoe house, we sought out a couple of thrift stores. You can’t make a trip anywhere, without doing this, can you? The first stop was disappointing, but the Hospice Thrift Store, in Truckee, had a pine bed, for $28, that I knew would paint up nicely. Of course, as with many thrift store finds, it’s missing the hardware to connect the footboard, but the headboard will work nicely, just the same. A few days later: Now it’s time to have some fun! You might…
Read the rest >>In the past, there were just two seasons, at Lake Tahoe. Summer, for boating and warm weather at the beach. Winter, for snow skiing. Simple as that! Now that we’re at the lake so much, we’re finding that fall is really drop-dead-gorgeous! Who says we don’t have beautiful fall color? This is a photo of Squaw Valley, on our way to pick up our season passes on Monday. We are getting tons of snow this year, aren’t we? This drought needs to be over! Read the rest >>Hello there!, I hope you’re doing well, this beautiful Saturday! I’m getting ready for a full house, at this afternoon’s class. Yay! I just wanted to show off some new treasures at the Home… I’ve found a man who builds furniture, by hand, from solid Alder planks. It’s reasonably priced, simple, but solid and I love that it’s real wood and not pressed or veneer. I’ll be putting a few pieces in the Tahoe house, once it’s restored. I don’t have room to stock everything, but will have a few pieces on hand and take special orders. This great looking…
Read the rest >>Ever feel over your head? I sure do! There seem to be thousands of choices, as we remodel this place. I want it all done yesterday, which can sometimes be a problem! The exterior really needed a paint job, so that was a major decision. Choosing paint colors can be so daunting! I really like the new paint color. We’ll end up with a brick red front door, that should look pretty sharp. That will probably have to wait until warm weather returns, since the door will have to come off. This is the 1958 kitchen that will be gutted,…

If you’re looking for a great paint at a terrific price, stop on by! $22/Quart on about 8 discontinued colors! We’ve brought in a really great greeting card line! It’s not raunchy, but just great fun! $2.95 each! Jill and Diane are becoming the sign masters! They are taking fruit drying trays and turning them in to very fun signs! This is a stellar, tufted bench, covered professionally in a great Ikat fabric. I’ve left most of the gilded pieces off, but…

She talks with a bit of a twang. I’ve always wished I was Southern. Then, I could say things Southern women say, in that Southern way. You know!? Yall? Now, Blanche doesn’t open up to just anyone, but she wanted me to show you her surprise! She may look simple and refined on the outside, but if you look closely, you’ll see she’s been waxed with Diamond Dust, giving her a…
Read the rest >>Do you have a loving relationship with your coffee table? If you’ve been shopping Restoration Hardware or any better furniture stores, you’ll see plenty of coffee tables on the floor for $1,000 and more. Everything in this room is an antique, or at least vintage, except for the sofa, pillows and window coverings. While the sofa cost me a year’s allowance, the coffee table was purchased at an estate sale, for next to nothing. In any living or family…great room…the coffee table is an important anchor. The size, shape and “weight” of the piece, should be in proportion to the…
