The Glamorous Life! July 26, 2018
Greetings, friends of The Treasured Home!
Had you told me ten years ago, I’d be taking my solo trek, in a 17′ Uhaul Truck, I would have laughed. Back then, moving furniture was not part of my daily existence. Oh, what I was missing!
At the age of 63, anticipating my maiden voyage, Mr. Wonderful gave me a quick course on straps. I’m a fast learner!
3:05 – Head to the UHaul rental yard, for pick up.
3:29 – Wait our turn, in the sweltering rental office. Making every effort to stand in the path of the solo fan. (We happen to be in the midst of Sacramento’s 100+ temp-fest.)
4:03 – At the peak of our day’s temp (approximately 105 degrees), I head to the road, with Mr. wonderful following close behind, should I buckle under pressure!
4:12 – I give Mr. Wonderful the high-five and send him home. I’ve got this “trucker woman” thing figured out! Plus, Mr. W., is going through prostate radiation therapy, and can’t be with me, as he usually is. Fortunately, it’s almost over!
4:26 – Crossing the river, I’m quite sure that my under-garments, simple as they are, have fused permanently, with my skin. I know they said a functional A/C system was part of the deal, but I’m having my doubts!
4:52 – Gas stop/bathroom break – Time to gas up, in an out of the way gas station, where chances of me wrecking something expensive, are minimized. (I backed up the truck for the first time. So far, so good!)
5:01 – Back on I-80, headed towards San Francisco. It’s back-to-back traffic, going 9 miles an hour. I make regular checks of my gauges, hoping Bessey doesn’t overheat. That would just be the frosting on the cake!
As I drive, with hands holding a wheel that is hot and sticky, I remember where this began. In Provence, with kind people, blue skies and rolling hills, dotted with stone cottages.
Tomorrow’s another day. 8:00 a.m. – meet the driver of our fully stocked container. If all goes as planned, I’ll be sharing it with you all. Keep an eye on Facebook.com/thetreasuredhome, for great news, about my stellar truck loading skills and beautiful treasures.

Barbara….you’re amazing! My first thought often is, ‘Yikes! The Bay Area Traffic at rush hour!’ ….on Friday to boot! But then, I realize that traffic is kinda a good thing, as everyone is going so s-l-o-w! Can’t wait to see your treasures….your shop is amazing. Love that you have branched out with the wonderful clothing, jewelry and fun classes (I have done one!) along with the beautiful furniture and antiques. Planning on getting in to buy some Fusion paint! What an amazing job you’ve done, truly ;o) Take good care….and good thoughts are sent up for your husband as well!
