Sunday Dinner Shortcuts February 17, 2013
Hello there!,
You may have gathered, that in the kitchen, I am all about minimal effort, with maximum impact.
If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s in your area, I suggest you move! I love the place and they too, are short cut masters!
Mr. Wonderful thinks I make a wonderful spaghetti sauce. The best. Here’s how simple it is…
Start with a medium onion and dice and sauté it. Then, add a pound of mild Italian sausage, out of its casing, crumbled, and a pound of lean ground beef. Stir and brown. Add 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste, along with a teaspoon of dried chopped oregano.
Empty the contents of two cans of diced tomatoes in juice, along with a quart jar of your favorite prepared spaghetti sauce.
While your pasta of choice is boiling in a big pot of salted water, toss your salad. Another difficult step!
Any of Trader Joe’s individual salads add lots of interest to a family sized bowl of salad, when mixed with fresh spinach or lettuce.
And since I usually go light on the salad dressing, their individual portions of dressing are usually enough for a large salad. If needed, add some olive oil. You can also add shaved Parmesan and croutons if you have them. Easy as pie.
No pie here, even though Marie Calendar’s is having a pie sale right now. I could probably eat an entire coconut cream pie all by myself! Sad but true!
Another item I sampled while there, at Trader Joe’s, was a balsamic syrup.
I’m going to server tomorrow with some sliced tomatoes and mozzarella. There’s another cheese product that is pretty wonderful. Crumbled ricotta. Mmm.
I give both of these items four stars!
Blessings to you and yours!
Oh! By the way, if you are a furniture painter, waxing without a wax brush, be sure to enter my give-away, for two wax brushes, being given away, Wednesday, the 21st!
Thanks!
That smells wonderful! Great idea to add Italian sausage, thanks! 😉
Ohhhh how I miss pasta. I am classically French trained and I still like to have as many “cheats” in the kitchen as I can. especially when there are so many craft and home decor projects, so little time. 🙂 Miss you my friend and hope you are doing well. Thinking about a trip to Cali to visit with my sweet Kathysue. Do you live near her?
Did you find out that you’re gluten intolerant? At least it wasn’t something more serious. But I know what you mean! Love those carbs!
YUM. This is making me hungry. Great suggestion to expand the single serving salads!
Barbara…just love a shortcut!!…and love Trader Joe’s!!!….Thanks for the great receipt!
