Paper Is This Girl’s “Gold” August 26, 2011
In my short-lived life as a design blogger, I’m amazed to see some of you southern women with craft/art/office/sewing rooms as big as Tara’s mansion in “Gone with the Wind”. I’m not sure where all the space comes from, but it’s enviable!
I have a dear friend, Debbie, who is a die-hard paper goddess. She has a small space in her home that’s meticulously organized to pack any tool or gizmo made that has to do with paper. If it’s been made, she’s tried it, bought it sold it or given it away. Her trash is my treasure!
And the cards she makes with all of these beautiful papers and ribbons and gizmos are absolutely beautiful. I went there recently, for another card making tutorial. Let me give you a quick tour…
Need a stamp?
And there are more in her closet!
Ribbon, paper punchers, glue sticks, scissors, beautiful papers in every color, for every occasion, plus trim, bling, you name it, it’s all here!
Her husband is a die-hard football fan, so she expects to be spending lots of free time in her “Happy Place”. I can certainly see why. Her only rule, when making cards, is to always make two. She says it doesn’t take much more time to make two, and you can always use a beautiful card!
Here are some of my efforts…it almost looks like I know what I’m doing! We spent a couple of hours and had a blast!
Aren’t they great? If you have never tried card making yourself, I urge you to give it a try. You don’t need all the fancy gizmo’s. Shop around at places like Tuesday morning and Marshall’s for beautiful papers, get envelopes at the office supply store, grab a glue stick and paper cutter and you’re ready to get started! Enjoy!
I am so envious I would love a little creative space in my house for all my sewing & art pieces somewhere to work & get inspiration. At home I sit at the dining table with my laptop & my office at work is pretty small & cramped. With 3 children in the house there isnt much space left for me but a girl can dream
Good morning, Sarah, from the UK! Where abouts in the UK are you from? Welcome!
If it’s any consolation to you, both Debbie and I are in our mid-fifties and our kids are grown and out of the house. So, there’s more time and space now for all the creative stuff of life! Debbie also belongs to a group of women that love paper crafting and meet at one another’s homes once a month to share ideas and just enjoy themselves. Sounds like fun!
I’m off to your web site to see what you do…happy weekend!,
Barbara
