Bergere Chair Make-Over July 1, 2014
Re-upholstering a piece of furniture is something I do with a lot of thought, because it’s an expensive process! I can usually visualize what a certain paint finish will look like, but I’m not always as lucky, when it comes to fabric!
This was the chair, when I got it. Hard to believe it was the same chair. It was in excellent shape, with beautiful lines, but the wood finish and fabric were outdated.
The wood finish was updated from the original blonde finish, by painting with Amy Howard’s One-Step, followed by a poly acrylic and dark glaze.
Then, I shipped off the chair to the upholsterer’s along with some pre-washed “grain sack” fabric, that I found at decorsteals.com. When shopping for fabric, I look for fabric that’s either easy to care for, like Polyester, or washable. This fabric was washable and the back and seat cushions are zippered.
I was so pleased with the final results! Double welting, just gorgeous, all the way around! Happily, it went to a new home last week!
In case we don’t talk before, the shop will be closed on Friday, the 4th of July. We’ll be open for business as usual, on Saturday, the 5th.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
God bless America!
