Around the House (Summer Mantle Update and …) June 26, 2012
Well, I may be a little behind schedule, but it’s never too late for a mantle update!
It’s been looking like this for a while, and I thought it was looking a little dull, for the summer months.
Everything’s looking kind of… brown! Can’t have that!
Croquet balls should be kind of summery. But they are brown. So I stuck them on the coffee table.
I brought in my three little thrift shop vases and of course added some fresh silk flowers. They go together with my faux baby’s breath, or whatever that stuff is, in the urn. Don’t tell anyone, because they look amazingly real! (hope no one wants to tell the time!) Hubba, hubba!
Being quite original, I brought in a few seashells, along with one of my personal masterpieces, created of Lake Tahoe. Darned impressive, right? Wait, there’s more! At our kitchen table, remember my orchid centerpiece? Well, that baby’s still kicking! I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth!
I’ve really enjoyed my blue-and-white porcelain bowl, from The Enchanted Home and as you can see, I really like these little mini vases, in groups of three. Gardenias are blooming through out our garden and I love the scent, as I walk by the table.
I was sanding some tables that need to be painted or repainted this morning. This little one, has been sitting at the shop for too long. I’m going to repaint it in Annie Sloans new color, Antoinnette. It’s a beautiful, soft pink. It would look great with some towels stacked on the bottom shelf and some pretty things on top, in a bathroom. The safest thing would be to paint it a cream color. But that would be too easy!
I was just going to stain this guy a dark walnut, but there is an obvious faded spot on top, that I don’t think I could cover up.
See what I mean? What would you do, color wise?
This poor thing, fell off the wall, full of vintage Virginia glass pieces. I didn’t hang it properly, to withstand the weight, so I had quite a mess on my hands, that day at the shop.
Well, dear friend, I’m going to go make me some pillows. Wish me luck!
Until we meet again…
News Flash! I just had to put away the shells! I’m quite certain Lake Tahoe has no creatures living in a shell and it was way too expected. I even think I got the shells in one of those big bag-o-shells, at somewhere like Marshall’s! I had to “come clean”!
Barbara your mantel looks beautiful and I love your table too!!
Those tables are great. Interested to see them all painted up. Seashells contrived? Say it isn’t so! I have seashells and I’m right in the middle of the country!!! 😉
Doesn’t the ocean pass through Ohio?! Ha! I might have left them there, if I had personally collected them, but…’twas not the case.
Actually it’s Wisconsin!
Good point about the shells Barbara! I love the balls in the basket – that was a beautiful change – everything looks great, actually. 🙂
Lovely vignettes, Barbara. Fun to freshen up for Summer.
Lovely all!! I have seashells spread all over the house this time of year! Oh dear!

I think/hope you know I was kidding! They just didn’t work for me. You know, sort of like “Where’s Waldo?” Those guys just didn’t fit. Another big decision handled! 🙂
Barbara,
I just saw you in the new Inside Arden then checked out your blog. It is amazing. I feel I have discovered a treasure. Looking forward to reading it.
