Progress at the Workshop September 27, 2012

I’ve risen up from the blog underworld. That’s the place you go, when you haven’t blogged in a few days. Trust me I have not been sitting idol.

One exciting development, is that I completed a drapery (woo-hoo!) panel and love how it turned out! I made this with painters drop cloth and velvet. One more two go!

The other development that really makes me happy, is that my old shutters will fit perfectly on the walls, between the picture rail and the baseboard. I have enough to install another section on the other side of the room, I think. I’m looking for anything I can do, to add texture and interest to a pretty sterile space. I was going to whitewash the shutters and then I decided to just to clean and oil them. This is not going to be your typical shabby chic, Frenchy antique shop! I’m still not sure exactly what it will turn out to be, but It’s fun seeing it all develop.

The laminate floors go in on Monday! I can’t wait!

I’m putting in a commercial laminate that’s supposed to take all sorts of abuse.

While the cabinets are finished, I still haven’t made a final decision on hardware. But the security camera guys came today and installed cameras.

Pretty exciting, right? A nearby antique shop was broken into recently and a video store was held up at gunpoint the other day! I’m not planning on shooting back, but we will get a nice photo of whoever walks through the door! If you know any bad guys, spread the word! Ha!
My daughter, in college, told me she needed some’s supplies from Target, so I made a visit this afternoon. As I was getting everything on my care package list, I couldn’t just pass by the fun home decor department. They had a new designer on the shelf who I wasn’t familiar with, but there were some very nice looking accessories!

Trophies cups, anyone?

Not exactly one-of-a-kind, but fun just the same.

Well, chickadee’s, that’s what’s going on in my neck of the woods. What’s happening with you?

Love what you are going to do with the shutters…they are beautiful! Target always has interesting items, I’ve just been too busy playing designer in my home to go looking! 😉

The workshop is looking pretty marvelous…great idea on the laminate on the floor….can’t wait to see what you do with the shutters…I saw in a magazine and then on Kari’s blog of a wall covered in shutters….I love that look…would love to try that effect!….I am always running in a out of Target and not spending much time in the home decor department….need to take a few extra moments and browse!….Have a great weekend!

Thanks Shirley! It’s been a slow process, but it should be coming together soon! Being a cheap fashionista, I also found a great pair of grey jeans with a matching sweater. They also have all the bright colors, but I’d feel like a neon sign, wearing canary yellow jeans! Maybe twenty years ago…

I love your enthusiasm

Barbara, I love what you did with the painter’s drop cloth! I’ve painted one before… but never thought about adding a luscious fabric like velvet to it. Very creative. I can’t wait to see what your shop looks like!

I can’t wait to see how the workshop will turn out. I bet you poured all your creative juice on this project, right? No wonder, I get so excited by just reading the ideas!

Hi Claire, have I ever mentioned that I love your picture, attached to your comments (which I appreciate so, so much)? It’s really fun! The shop’s really coming together and has been such an adventure for one with such limited experience in this arena! Once I have all the boxes put away, I hope to post a video!
      Have a great day!,

It’s really useful to include the proper placement security cameras in our home improvement projects. Gives more peace of mind when we are not at home. Thanks Barbara 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Maggie! We just never know what life has in store for us. Hopefully it will discourage the bad guys!
