Milano In Color! April 25, 2012

Day 13 in Milan:
Another thrill-packed day! Our trip is coming to a close and I’ll be happy to be back home. I hear that Wonder Dog has stayed by the front door, waiting for his momma!

Our day started early, leaving for the train in the rain. It poured all night long and thankfully the sun was coming out by the time we reached Milan.

We toured the city’s Fashion District, on our way to the opera house, that was restored about five years ago. Back in the day, people owned their own box seats, reminding me of how patrons used to own their own private viewing boxes at Carnegie Hall, in New York City, as well.

Next, we headed to Milan’s Galleria, a gorgeous domed structure, with shops and restaurants. I know it’s old, but please don’t ask me how old. All the dates are starting to run together in my mind, about now!

A few of us had a yummy lunch here. I wanted to put the bottle of olive oil in my purse, it was so yummy on their delicious rolls! But, you’ll be happy to know that I gave up stealing a while ago!

We had a little time to spare, before our visit of the Duomo, so we visited a very high-end department store on the square. Believe me, we just browsed. It was too rich for my blood, but the product line was gorgeous! Color is everywhere!

The same was true in the housewares department. Vibrant color all over the place!

How about lunch on the terrace?

Next stop, Milan’s duomo (Cathedral).

This wasn’t the best angle to take a picture from, but you can see what an amazing structure this is. It was built in the Gothic style, entirely from marble inside and out and it took about 200 years to build. The detail is amazing. I couldn’t take pictures on the inside of the cathedral, but you can imagine, I’m sure!

Our Final stop was of Leonardo’s Last Supper. He painted it on a refectory wall in a monastery in Milan, hundreds of years ago. It’s showing its age, but it took my breath away.

Back on the train, to our hotel, we saw that the storm had covered the nearby Alps with a fresh coat of snow! So pretty with the sun out again.

I’ll be wrapping up our travel log tomorrow. Thanks for joining me along the way!

Until next time,

Barbara

I’m sure you are feeling the call of home now, always happens to me on a long trip. My goodness I have enjoyed touring along with you to some destinations I’ve visited and some I haven’t. We didn’t make it to Milano but now I feel like I’ve been there and even a little shopping in a department store. That is one thing I always try to do, so thanks for taking us along on your shopping trip too. I see you have an adorable little baby waiting for you. Safe travels.

What a thrill to be able to browse the beautiful shops in Milan…The cathedral is magnificent…but, Wonder Dog stole my heart…

Hi Barbara! Although I have seen a lot of Italy I have never been to Milan so this was so neat to see! It looks incredible…I loved the peek at what’s in that fashionable store – to me they still set the pace for fashion the world over…it looks like beautiful colors are on their way IN.
