Lighting for our Guest Room August 24, 2011

Good day dear friends,

For ages, our guest room has only had one nightstand and one lamp. I know this sounds horrific, so I recently decided to remedy the situation. It’s not a big room, but should two people stay there, it certainly is nice to have a place to set a cup of coffee, a book…a gun, or what have you.

The original nightstand is an antique, so there was no chance I’d find another to match, and the lamp was purchased about 4 years ago, so not much chance to find a matching lamp either.

So, I searched for a table of some sort that would be similar in style, size (height in particular) and wood color. I found a great little piece at Veranda Antiques, in Carmichael, for $145. Its about an inch or so shorter, so Mr. Wonderful is going to find some small wheels with brass fittings that will bring it to the perfect height.

Veranda Antiques is a great spot that I have found a number of treasures at. They’re located on Palm Avenue and have new goodies all the time at very fair prices.

Now that I had the right table, I worked to remedy the lighting issue. I really dislike mismatched lamps on nightstands, so I decided to just go with an old style desk lamp. At Ikea, they stock a Barometer Work Lamp for $49.99.

It would have been fine, but Ikea is way, on the other side of town, so I dropped in to OfficeMax, their Victory Pharmacy desk lamp, for just $31.99! What a deal!

And once Mr. wonderful helped me put it together, it looks pretty darn good, without competing with the lamp on the other nightstand.

Now, I need to tweak things a bit, hang the picture and remove those pretty tags on the cord, but overall, I think the shopping fairy was guiding me to the right spot, to find just what I needed!

And if any of you are looking for a guest room, with two nightstands and two lamps, next time you visit Sacramento, I might have just what you’re looking for!
Enjoy the day!

I think this looks terrific. I am not a fan of those little tiny matching lamps that you can’t even read by. I don’t turn out the light unless I read at least one page of a book or magazine and how many times have you encountered a 25 watt bulb and a lamp that is only 12 inches high? Useless if you ask me. Now take that tag off the cord!

Yes, momma! I think I’ll keep my eye out for more colorful bedding options. Have you opened an Etsy store for your pillows yet?

Lovely, I’ve seen the room before and it was very nice, but the new and improved looks great. Can’t wait for a sleepover.

Wow, that is a great deal! I’ve seen them for SO much more and had no idea that Office Max sold lights like that!
