Grand Entrances October 7, 2011
Our home is at the end of a short asphalt lane and the asphalt continues onto our property, serving as our (very large) driveway. As far as aesthetic appeal is concerned, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best looking, I give asphalt a zero. So, suffice it to say, I have yearned to have the asphalt replaced for years.
I’ve thought of just about every conceivable surface. There are lots of manufactured pavers on the market today, but to me they all look manufactured. As if they’re trying to be something they’re not.
I think before choosing a manufactured paver, I’d go with a stained concrete instead. I also love concrete and grass driveways. They almost make you forget that there’s any driveway at all!
I’ve seen 4″ concrete squares with alternate grass squares, that I really love!
I also like cut gravel driveways. Cut gravel, as opposed to pea gravel is much more stable, as the gravel will lock together, flat side to flat side.
But while I dream of this project actually coming to fruition here at the homestead, let me show you a couple of home entrances that are out of this world…in my ever so humble opinion. As I’ve always said, “If you’re going to dream, dream BIG!”
What about those lanterns, fellow lantern lovers?
Enjoy your weekend!
I use cut gravel all the time and it looks great year after year. Of course, if I had a driveway I would want the stone and grass treatment, so European looking.
G’morning Jane! Thanks for visiting!!
I love lanterns, too and those are wonderful.
Aren’t they?! I’d love to see what’s on the other side of the gate!
Love the concrete and grass! Hope you are having a great weekend!…hugs…Debbie
Hi Debbie, Glad you stopped by! (wish I could say that in French!)
