Re-upholstering a piece of furniture is something I do with a lot of thought, because it’s an expensive process! I can usually visualize what a certain paint finish will look like, but I’m not always as lucky, when it comes to fabric! This was the chair, when I got it. Hard to believe it was the same chair. It was in excellent shape, with beautiful lines, but the wood finish and fabric were outdated. The wood finish was updated from the original blonde finish, by painting with Amy Howard’s One-Step, followed by a poly acrylic and dark glaze. Then, I…

Here’s what she looked like before we painted her with MMS Trophy and Grain Sack. We decided to do without the bonding agent (primer), so that it would do its chippy thing, here and there. I don’t know what caused the front panel to chip to the extreme! Jill did a great job painting the piece. For some added interest, we decided to paint the front and back panel, in Grain Sack. The back panel turned out great, with mild distressing.…

Well, here’s the story… Last Thursday night, we had our first Introduction to Furniture Painting class, featuring Amy Howard’s One-Step Paint, using lamps from the thrift store! All the principals of furniture painting can be learned on a lamp, just as well as they can, on a piece of wood molding, but this is much more fun…for you. For me, I get to go thrift store shopping, which truthfully, is not my favorite past-time. Go figure! The only challenge…

We treated the chairs to gel stain as well, along with this fun, manly fabric, for the seat cushions! I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a reminder to “eat”! I love this sign, that I found at a salvage shop in L.A. ($395). These spheres, made from wine barrel rings, could add a lot of interest to Dad’s landscape, at $48. Shaken or stirred? If you’re Dad is a candidate for a wonderful, vintage ice bucket, from the…
