Come On In! (To The Treasured Home)

By Barbara Bussey | October 25, 2012 |

I know some of you are more than a stones throw away, so why don’t we take the grand tour of the new shop! Let your fingers do the walking! Saturday’s the big day! The window decal went on today and I love it! This lovely bear, greets you, as you walk in the door! It’s painted by one of our local artists, Jean Lamour. Harry, the headless cowboy, is also on hand to greet you! I am tempted to take these preserved boxwood balls and the pedestal planters home with me! I LOVE these bird houses! The pennants are…

Looking for a New Ride

By Barbara Bussey | October 24, 2012 |

Greetings, dear friends! Without much fanfare, but with so much to celebrate, The Treasured Home will officially open for business Saturday morning! While my location gets lots of drive by traffic, I’m thinking about something to grab driver’s attention. I’ve got the sign for the window (white decal) going in tomorrow… …and a sign out at the street, that anyone driving 6 miles per hour should be able to read… But, what if I could park a ride like this one! Modeling, is blog-diva, Donna, of Funky Junk out front! These two are real beauties! I found one candidate on…

The Treasured Home Opens Soon!

By Barbara Bussey | October 22, 2012 |

It has been so much fun, making an antique and DIY workshop out of an office suite! (I remember showing the space to a few friends before any work was done and I could almost “hear” the doubt.) Everything has just come together, though, almost magically…as though it was meant to be. (Yes, I believe in magic, thanks to the angels above!) Have you ever tried to make things happen and hit all sorts of brick walls? Not here! To bring attention to “natural paint” for sale, I sprayed paper m ché letters with spray adhesive and then covered them…

“Captions Free” iPad App for the Tech-Challenged

By Barbara Bussey | October 19, 2012 |

Well, are you impressed? I’ve got a talking cow! All thanks to “Captions Free”, a FREE iPad app I just discovered! Isn’t it fun? I know that many of you are photography experts that run around Photo Shop, like you’ve lived in the neighborhood all of your life. They say to know your strengths and that’s not mine. I need programs that require no more than three steps and wowzers!…I found it. So, continue to be thoroughly impressed with my amazing talents! We’re leaving the Big Apple, headed for that little college, with about 4500 wild and crazy students, in…

Hi End, Low End… New York

By Barbara Bussey | October 17, 2012 |

Well, We just wrapped up another day, walking the streets of Manhattan. I’ve taken my partner in crime in all directions. Yesterday he opted out of shopping at the Salvation Army Thrift store. Smart man! I had heard that this shop had a great selection, thanks to Mr. Goodwill Hunting, on the Nate Burkas show. I thought “what the heck!”. I thought I might find a few interesting “smalls” that I could stuff into my suitcase. Not!   They had these pictures on the wall for entertainment purposes, as you walked up to the third floor of this old warehouse.…

ABC Carpet & Home

By Barbara Bussey | October 16, 2012 |

Hello again, from the “Big Apple”! Today, we’re going to make our annual pilgrimage to ABC Carpet & Home. The place takes up two large old buildings, across the street from one another, on Broadway, in New York City. One building is all about floor covering. I skip that. The furniture and home accessories are all I care about! This is a Venetian glass chandelier with an antique mirror, behind it, wrapped in gauze! You wrap your mirror frames in gauze, don’t you? Don’t we all? While the picture misses most of it, this display is surrounded by white Christmas…

Adventures in New York City

By Barbara Bussey | October 15, 2012 |

What a city! You can find just about anything here! We don’t come with a well planned agenda, but love to take each day as it comes. While I find some of the subway riders a bit unsavory, the system is by far, more efficient than riding a taxi, sitting in traffic. The subway system dates back to 1904 and is the largest in the world! It’s too bad more cities didn’t plan for this form of transit, way back then. The old mosaic tiles were hand cut back then and newer installations have been added since. A variety of…

8 Things I Learned at the Southern Bloggers Conference (and will do this week!)

By Barbara Bussey | October 14, 2012 |

Greetings, blog sisters!, I left the Haven Conference in June, with pages of notes, that I shared with you. A couple of the things I learned were put to use, but not nearly enough! The SBC was shorter, smaller and not as slick, but I left with a few new friends and a short list of important upgrades to my blog, that I’m going to do now! First of all, you may wonder what in the world the burlap bags I stenciled for the shop, to do with building a better blog. Good question. They lead to the first two…
