ABC Carpet & Home October 16, 2012
Hello again, from the “Big Apple”!
Today, we’re going to make our annual pilgrimage to ABC Carpet & Home.
The place takes up two large old buildings, across the street from one another, on Broadway, in New York City. One building is all about floor covering. I skip that.
The furniture and home accessories are all I care about! This is a Venetian glass chandelier with an antique mirror, behind it, wrapped in gauze! You wrap your mirror frames in gauze, don’t you? Don’t we all? While the picture misses most of it, this display is surrounded by white Christmas trees and ornaments.
Mr. Wonderful was in the coffee shop next door, so we are on a modified first floor exploration. He is such a sport and I hate to abuse him, unless it’s for a really good reason!
I’d never imagine a turquoise glitter Madonna, to ring in the holidays, but, why not?
I don’t see a Jon Robshaw linen display, like I have the last two visits. (I love his big euro shams for our bed, doubled up) Instead, there are more pillows in beautiful shades of grey, taupe, lavender, wheat, in velvet and linen.
My fellow pillow enthusiast, Jane, at Empress of the Eye, was just visiting ABC in West Palm Beach. She was just talking about the crazy prices for pillows without a zipper, even! Yes, I kinda think that when you buy pillows for $250 a “pop”, that they should have zippers, aligned patters at the seams and all that good stuff. Maybe Mrs. ABC is getting a little greedy at the top! No, you won’t find bargains at ABC, but you will find some of the most unique and creative displays anywhere!
And finally, before I let you go, if you have any extra pallets around your house, looking to be repurposed, they could become a shelving unit for all of your party platters! A little/lot of white spray paint and voila!
This was the first time I left the store empty handed, but my head’s swimming with new ideas!
Well, we certainly covered ABC Carpet this month didn’t we? Inspiring place plus it’s across the street from Fishes Eddy. Enjoy the energy of NYC…nothing like it.
Of all the times I went to NYC…never went to ABC….next time!!!…Love the pallets….such a cute idea!….Glad you are enjoying your trip…even without your cell phone!!!
