This week at the shop! February 5, 2024

Hello, gorgeous!

I hope you survived Sunday night’s storm, without damage!  I woke up in the middle of the night and it sounded like hurricane force winds, outdoors!

We did lose power, late in the afternoon, until early this morning.  Fortunately, we had plenty of candles and a battery light, for roadside emergencies, that worked well.  My sister had a couple of old camping lamps, that she set up, for light.  What did people do before electricity?  We are so spoiled…especially since this kind of weather doesn’t show up too often.

Bob and I played a couple of romantic rounds of Farkle, by candlelight.  Have you played this game?  It’s a very fun dice game and good for any size group.

Pretty soon, we were reading…Bob with his head light and me on my iPad.  So much for adventure! A good night to turn in early!

My current paint project…

I showed you this piece last week.  I changed my plans about six times.  Looking at the top, I knew this girl needed to have her top sanded.  Once cleaned and sanded, I finally decided on a deep blue, that’s really pretty!  It’s Fusion Mineral Paint’s Willobank.  It’s a great piece, in a manageable size.  I see lots of uses for it and love the spindle legs and wheels and original hardware.

Another favorite feature is the drawer’s interior.  What a happy addition.  I applied the Iron Orchid Designs transfers to a clean surface and then sealed everything with Fusion’s Tough Coat.  It’s a great way to make use of left over transfer pieces!

I’ve applied two coats of paint and will be sealing the surface in the next couple of days, with Fusion’s Stain and Finishing Oil, in the natural shade.

And then…

I love to go thrifting!  I found this metal urn, in a shape I liked and knew it would look much better with a paint wash.  It started out in browns and golds and it’s so much better, thanks to Fusion’s ‘’Cashmere”.  Since I had left over paint, I added a little water to it and did a paint wash on an Iron Orchid Design Paint Inlay, applied to a riser.  The “wash”, which is about 50% water, added to the paint, really softened the image.  I painted it on and used a folded paper towel to wipe it off.

You can find all the products mentioned, from Iron Orchid Design and Fusion Mineral Paint, online, at www.thetreasuredhome.com.

Speaking of thrifting… I found this table lamp and love the color!  As luck would have it, I had the perfect shade, in my stash! Hunt and gather…$46.

Before I go…

Here’s James! He’s getting so big!  Thankfully, I’ll be seeing him in just a little more than a week!!!
