Purged!

By Barbara Bussey | October 10, 2010 |

Saturday’s staging inventory sale was a huge success, thanks to my dear friend, Moka and his amazing organization and sales skills! My husband, Bob, was there to help as well and together, we were able to sell 80+% of everything in stock. Lots of folks got some great deals, which was also rewarding for us! It felt wonderful to see the things I had carefully selected, find new, happy homes, making way for new design adventures for me in the years to come! Wednesday, I head for NYC, the “Big Apple”! We’ll re-visit my favorite design haunts and hopefully discover…

Countertop Choices Expanding

By Barbara Bussey | September 16, 2010 |

When I was growing up, enjoying the “luxury” of military housing, Formica or poorly maintained tile countertops seemed the norm. Now, decades later, the choices abound. From honed or polished granite, to cement, limestone, quartz, stainless steel or marble, all the way to beautifully grained woods, the options are endless. Wooden countertops seem so daringly extravagant in a kitchen, when I think about potential issues with heat and moisture. Yet, even these obstacles are being met with wood sealants and as you see in the photo, stainless ball bearings set into the wood counter to create a built in trivet.…

The Harmonious Home

By Barbara Bussey | August 14, 2010 |

There’s more to a beautiful home than pretty things. Most of us know this simple fact, but many tend to overlook or ignore the need for harmony in our lives and the place we call home. First and foremost should be comfort. For me, that means clean, clutter-free order; colors that are in harmony; furnishings that allow for good traffic flow; and furniture that works well together, in scale, color and style.

Divine Draperies

By Barbara Bussey | August 9, 2010 |

Just like light fixtures or home accessories, beautiful draperies can add a sumptuous feeling of quiet luxury to a room.  I’m not talking about the window panels you can pick up at Target.  (I’m a great fan of Target, but not for draperies.) By sumptuous, I’m talking about custom made draperies, made to order.  They come in all sorts of yummy fabrics, chosen to complement the furnishings in a room.  They feel delectable when you touch them and have a beautiful weight to their lined loveliness, which helps them hang oh-so-beautifully.
