Painting Everything In Sight (Trying Out New Painting Tips) July 10, 2012
Warning! If you stand still, in one place, for too long, I just might paint you!
It’s a furniture painting marathon over at my workshop, this week! What else are you supposed to do, when it’s a hundred zillion degrees outside?
I repainted these two pieces because the lattice piece got banged up, when it fell off the wall (long, sad, boring story!) and the piece in front, because it was chipping. Both pieces were originally painted in latex, but I hadn’t followed the important rules. First, wipe the piece down with TSP, followed by an oil based primer and finally with 2-3 coats of the latex. Once painted with latex, using small foam rollers, you need to let the paint cure for up to 30 days. Holy cow! I had done none of these things on the first go-round!
I bought this Asian inspired dresser at an estate sale. And went through all of the steps noted above, painting it with the latex. It needs another coat of paint and I’m hoping it will look like something of interest with the hardware I’m going to spray paint.
This formerly black plate rack, is now white, thanks to Annie Sloan.
Mr. Wonderful doesn’t know it, but I hope he’ll mount my new antlers on this plaque. (Sorry, Rudolph! It wasn’t me!)
This sweetheart, is getting a partial makeover.
I painted her legs in Paris Gray, with Old White accents. Again Annie Sloan. I really like the natural colored wood showing on the top surface, so I’m just going to wax it in a clear wax.
And what do you do, when you have a dirty lampshade? Why you painted it of course, with the leftover latex paint in your tray!
Now, if you’re thinking that all of these pieces are done in boring, ho-hum colors, drop back by tomorrow! I’ll show you what Mr. wonderful has been doing with his bad-boy paint sprayer!
Stay tuned!,
Barbara
You’ve been busy! Never thought about painting a lampshade, but why not! Can’t wait for Part Deux!! 😉
Hey Paint Lady!!…love, love your furniture pieces and love them more painted!…AND….you gave me an idea for a lampshade to be “Sloaned”…if Amy with Maison Decor can paint her suede ballet shoes, I guess a lamp shade can be “Sloaned” too….everything looks great!!….Now, wouldn’t Mr. Wonderful be cute in “Duck Egg Blue”!!!…
He says blue is hi favorite color!:)
Barbara you are inspiring us all!! I cannot wait to see the finale!
