Tahoe Restoration Update September 6, 2014
It’s a beautiful almost fall morning, at the lake. I’m sitting in bed, having my second or third cup of coffee, visiting my friends, in blog-land. Mr. Wonderful has been up since the crack of dawn, as usual.
We’ve had a wonderful summer, getting a feel for the place. The kids were able to visit and a few friends got to see the place, in its wall papered glory! Now, things are starting to happen!
The exterior is in need of a new coat of paint, so Pat, the painter arrives today, to start the prep work. What a job! He has to get started before the snow starts falling. We’re going to go from the current grey-blue color, to a deep brownish green color, with cream colored trim and a red door! I’ve always wanted a red door! We’re hoping for a big snow year, here in California! We. Need. Water! Saying our prayers!
A new slider went in last week. We will need to paint the wooden frame. I’m thinking about using milk paint, that just loves raw wood! We’re also going to be replacing all the window, door, floor and ceiling moldings with beefier moldings, so they’ll be painted to match.
We installed granite on the counters, in the apartment over the garage. This will be a good spot for a coffee pot and microwave. Bob installed the little fridge, too.
It looks great in the bathroom! Now, don’t be sad, the wall texture guy arrives later next week, to remove the wall paper and retexture the walls. Once that’s done, the porcelain “wood” tile flooring will go in, everywhere.
This little bath, down the hall, will have white bead board paneling installed. The small shower will be glassed in, which will make the space feel a little larger.
Next time we do an update on the house, I’ll tell you more about our flooring selection as well as a very cool new product, from Stickwood. I think we’re going to offer it at the shop. It’s reclaimed wood planks, that are 3/16″ thick, that have adhesive strips on the back. They’re applied to a clean, flat surface and look amazing. Instant character! We’re going to install it first in the dining room and go from there. It has a rustic, natural vibe, that will be just perfect!
Well kids, that’s all for now! Stay tuned and don’t forget to join us, Wednesday evening for Girl’s Night Out!
Must be so much fun to renovate the lake house…love the granite…looking forward more of the reno!!
Sounds like a fun night at the shop!
Thanks, Shirley! Too many options…so confusing, but fun! Now, we’ve decided to forget the tile flooring, because it willl be cold and noisy. Stay tuned! Hugs,
B.
