Living on the Dark Side February 22, 2012

Pretty catchy title, eh? You probably thought I had started selling contraband diamonds from deep within the jungles of Africa. Not yet. You’ll be the first to know!

Well, truthfully, I feel like a babe in the woods, taking my first wobbly steps with this ASCP stuff.
…or maybe it’s 1971. I’m in my black leotard in Miss Brown’s Modern Dance class (the “bitchen” alternative to generic P.E.), when I feel like I’m dancing pretty darn well! In fact, I’ve got my groove on, so much better than Cindy Welt!

Anyway, where was I going with all of this? I guess I’m just feeling pretty excited after trying out Annie Sloan’s dark wax today, for the first time! Frankly, I was avoiding it. But, I opened up that virgin can of wax and just dove in. It turned these cast-offs into family treasures. Or maybe, they’re really antique collector’s pieces, found under countless protective tarps, in a long forgotten barn, in the south of France! The French accent that I never had, just came back!

Thanks to my “smart” phone camera, there are two white blotches on the top surface, that really aren’t there in real life. Really!

The drawers on this piece are painted Graphite, like the top surface. People will be beating down the door at Veranda Antiques, just begging to buy these first! I just hope it doesn’t get messy! I hate confrontation!

Speaking of Chez Veranda, I’ll be there tomorrow, dawn (10:30-5:30) until dusk, if you can bring me lunch!
Until next time,
Bon vivant!,
Barbara
(in Paris, they call me Trixie!)

I’m impressed !with ypur skills! I really like the color combo!
Exactly what colors did you use?

      Hello dear Keven,
On the little table, I used Old White, with a bit of Paris Grey in the detailing. On the vanity, Graphite on the drawer fronts, and top surface and Old White everywhere else. Then I used the dark wax over the old white and grey. You just need to wipe off the dark wax as you go. Otherwise, it stains pretty quickly…sometimes not exactly where you want it.

Thank you! I’m going to try it!
