H. D. Buttercup, Now in San Francisco June 2, 2011
One of my all time favorite home furnishing collections can be found at ABC Home and Carpet in Manhattan. Well, the husband and wife owners of ABC divorced, so the husband went to California and opened a 100,000 sf store in L.A. Six months ago, the San Francisco store opened and I finally had a chance to take a look last weekend.
There’s a good mix of contemporary furnishings, with everything from natural organic fabrics to the more glamorous end of contemporary.
This metallic silver nightstand is 32″ wide and runs approximately $1200. I absolutely love it!! It’s much more my style than the linen sofas and rough, natural furniture pieces. They sort of remind me of living in a barn! A nice barn, but still a barn.
I certainly wouldn’t mind curling up on this velvet sectional. But I’ve never purchased a sectional because they seem to take over the room. I enjoy mixing shapes, color and fabric textures, mixing pieces. On top of all that, you need a very large space to hold most sectionals.
I can’t speak about the quality, but at $2500, it, like all of the sofas, was reasonably priced.
Now, how’s this chair for unique? There are actual sea shells embroidered into the material. I wondered if the shells would be annoying to sit on. I was amazed to note that I couldn’t feel them, when I sat in the chair. It would certainly be a fun conversation piece, if nothing else.
I got the feeling that they’re still finding out what their shoppers are looking for and that the selection isn’t fully developed. I was hoping to find a west coast version of ABC, but it wasn’t. At the same time, it’s certainly deserving of a look, if you’re in the market for furniture right now. Happy shopping!
