A New Favorite Blog… “A Femme d’Un Certain Age” March 27, 2012
Today, while at The Enchanted Home, who was my wonderful guest host today, my eyes came across an interesting sounding blog on Tina’s blog roll. First of all, it was about “older” women and secondly, because it was French!
The blog, is the work of Tish Jett. ( Don’t you even just love her name?) she writes about staying gorgeous, healthy, well dressed, well traveled…and that’s as far as I’ve gotten!
Her story is one I’ve imagined in a fairy tale. She has worked as a life/style writer and editor and “moved to France for a job and stayed for love”!
She wrote recently about choosing bright colors for spring, like the Patagonia sweater and Boden belt above! So, being the cheap skate that I am, I dropped by Target this afternoon and got this option…. Two tops and a tangerine cardigan, all for about $36! I’ll splurge on a purse and other little doo-dads, but as a rule, I’d rather buy a pair of alabaster sconces or an old farm table, or a trip to Europe, than designer duds. Somehow it all works out!
Now, Tish talks about wearing a belt around the middle, but I worry about accentuating something that isn’t as trim as I’d like it to be, so what do you say, Tish?
Speaking of life-on-the-cheap, If you’re like me and love fresh flowers on your bed table, scamper on over to Home Depot, for a 3″ (pot) orchid, for $8.88! Bring that baby home, stick it in a pretty bowl, like Tina’s porcelain , add some moss and you’re in business!
(no, that’s not porcelain from Tina’s shop…mine’s on the way! 🙂
Well, that’s all the brilliance I have to share with you today. Be sure to have a wonderful, French-y kind of day!
Hugs,
Barbara
OK, today you’re discussing one of my favorite people on the planet, Tish. I LOVE TISH !!! She’s amazing. And, I love what you did with the sweater advice of hers. You look lovely. And, Tina…she, too, is one of my favs…we are all such good friends, and now you will be one too. Welcome to our world, Barbara…xx’s from Texas…
Great to meet you, Marcia! I just visited your beautiful blog and all that very fun jewelry!
I love your outfit. I need to check out Target again. Yesterday I bought Leila a couple of things now I will have to go back for myself. I love that color on you.
You look fabulous Barbara.
I totally relate to spending on treasures rather than fashion, although I have been bargain hunting at Ross and Marshall’s this week and found some terrific items. You have a killer figure by the way!!!!
You’re too kind, Therese! i have a hard time paying Nordstrom prices, unless it’s on sale or something timeless, that I’ll enjoy for years. With all the washing, that doesn’t usually include summer clothes!
Barbara , we are traveling in the same circles (in blog land!!) I love Tish’s style and tips for us. I have brightened things up a bit as well. Her “Pharmacies” recommendations go right on my list.
You look great by the way; and I also love wearing a scarf as opposed to a belt for accessorizing. We have the same four poster bed too! Gorgeous orchid.
xoxo

Thanks for your sweet note, Karena! Great minds think alike!
Hi Barbara, I am new to your blog but I can tell already that I am going to love it. You are a woman that I can relate to since Target is one of my favorite stores. They have amazing things if you know how to put them together. You proved that today. Your two choices are excellent. I look forward to getting to know you more in the future! Have a great day!
Hello and welcome, Diana! Thanks for your sweet note. I’ll be visiting you soon!
You look gorgeous!
Oh da’ling! Thank you so much! I doubt classy you would be caught ‘dead’ in a Target sweater, but I’m doing what I can to “look the part”! One of these days, we’ll go shopping together!
You look beautiful in that tangerine color. I think brights look great on you. And isn’t that fine French store TarJay a nice place to find some fun things once in a while?
Hello, Mrs. Kick! Yes TarJay is sooo chic! Only the finest will do for me! 🙂
