This is a wonderful video from a very unique blog, Advanced Style. We’ve all seen the Red Hat Society ladies in their purple and red. I’ve told friends to shoot me, if ever I become a member. But, the ladies interviewed in this Advanced Style video, have a very refreshing view on their own personal fashion. They challenge me to live my authentic life, which I’m closer to achieving, the older I get.

Sure, there are times and places where we all have to conform, but in our own home, we should surround ourselves with colors, art, mementos, photos, books and people that make us feel welcome and at peace.

While well into middle age, I have a rich history of experiences to draw from, as I move forward. I remember the plywood and cinderblock bookshelves during my college days, with the neighbors knocking on the wall, when I played my stereo too high. I’ve lived with family cast offs and garage sale finds. I was always grateful, yet never stopped pursuing my quest for a pretty home. There were many years when I decorated my home to make my parents proud. But now, it’s for me and it gives me great satisfaction when my husband thanks me for making our home beautiful.

I still shop the estate sales and vintage shops, because I love pieces with history. They offer instant interest to a home, giving a sense of a collection that’s been gathered over time.
