How to Make a Simple Fall Wreath August 17, 2012

I understand that it comes from Georgia and that since the trucks are taking longer to fill these days, I shouldn’t expect it to arrive any day soon! But, we’ve lived with the coffee stained white carpet this long. I’m sure we can wait a little bit longer.
Now, back to business! Feeling kind of crafty this afternoon I decided to make a burlap wreath. I think it’s a nice option for fall and it fits my “fast and easy” criteria, for craft projects!
You will need a 5 inch wide roll of burlap about 12 yards long. I picked mine up at Veranda Antiques, but I believe you can also find them for sale at places like Save On Crafts. You’ll also need a plain wire hanger and a pair of pliers to straighten and curve the wire as well as a wire cutter. That’s it./strong>
It’s pretty easy to untwist a wire hanger. And it’ll take just a few minutes to shape it into about a 14 inch circle. I left about a 2 1/2 foot piece of ribbon at the beginning and end of my wreath, so I could use that to tie a bow. From there you simply “sew” the wire through the middle of the burlap ribbon, about every 2 to 3 inches, creating the loops.
The trickiest part was attaching the two wire ends together, while creating a wire loop to hang the wreath from. This isn’t the best of pictures, but I hope you get the idea.
I imagine that I could make all sorts of variations on this theme. I could add big red wooden beads, with the burlap, for the holidays. I could add greenery, glitter, …you name it!
Before I close for the day, here’s a not-so-good shot of a “cowboy” planter.
It’s still in the back of the car, minus the fern. I found it at an estate sale this morning and it is constructed using cement in the boots for stability and chicken wire in the legs and below the belt to create the shape, David at the store, says that “he” has a “package”!

That is a great wreath. Looks beautiful on the door, but is it fall yet?? It’s okay if it is because it is my favorite time of the year, but all the 100+ degree days makes me wonder—

Hi Karena, you know, I can’t remember where I got that hanger. I’ve had it for quite a while. It is a little nicer than the black $.99 hanger. Although, I do have a couple of those as well! 🙂
