Easter Breakfast in the Kitchen April 7, 2012
Easter greetings to you!
We’re starting our Easter morning bright and early, this year. All of you with little ones, anxious to see what the Easter Bunny brought, are up early too! Wrappers flying, fingers sticky, with more energy than a freight train.
I remember those days, looking back fondly. Some days, wishing I could turn back the hands of time and snuggle with the kids, wearing their footed sleepers…all warm and soft. And it’s times like this, missing my dad and the kids far away, that I can start to feel a little sorry for myself. It’s easy to drop into that place sometimes. So, I’m going grab on to the rope and pull myself out of my little sorry spot and get on with the day!
Whoa! Here I am! Getting that dirt and grime off my knee! That’s better! Now, where was I?
Oh yes…Easter morning, we’re waking with the birds and heading down the road a bit, with a friend, to a home on the bluffs. Every year now, for about 40 years, the nearby Presbyterian church has held sunrise Easter service at this home, for a small group of hardy souls. Even after the last homeowner passed away, the new owners continued the tradition and that’s been years, now.
Then, afterwards, a handful of folks are joining us for coffee and waffles back in our kitchen.
Bob makes the buttermilk batter an hour or two before hand. He swears that that gives the batter time to expand a bit and lighten up. He just uses Bisquick, and always with buttermilk! He claims to have a couple of secret ingredients, but I think he may be pulling my leg! Anyway, serve them hot off the griddle and they’ll melt in your mouth. Guaranteed!
I just went out into the garden to find what I could to bring a little color to the table. There’s usually a little something to snip out there. It doesn’t have to be much. Just enough to let people know you’re glad they came over!
Easter blessings to you!,
Barbara
