Greetings! A new and much smaller Treasured Home is back in the same building as the old TTH!  You’ll find our hours are very limited, but the treasures inside will be worth the visit! Stay in the know, by following along on Facebook, Instagram, Texts and this newsletter.

Dining Room Table and Chair Sale!

By Barbara Bussey | June 14, 2015 |

I love everything about dining room and kitchen tables!  They’re the place where you sit down to enjoy a good meal, with a friend, or your whole family.  It’s a gathering place, a place to play dominoes, or do homework.  For me, setting the table and making a flower arrangement, for a special dinner is more fun than making the dinner!  Who needs to eat?!      As you see, these chairs aren’t antiques or even vintage.  But I loved their shape and boy are they comfy!  After gel staining them, with General Finishes’s Java color and recovering them…

Kitchen Make Over, with Amy Howard’s One-Step

By Barbara Bussey | June 11, 2015 |

Do you love your kitchen cabinets?  No?   But you can’t replace them and professional painters’ bids are well into the thou$ands!  Whatcha gonna do? Well, paint them yourself, of course!     Katy sent us pictures of her new kitchen!  She chose “Rugo” blue, for the bottom cabinets and Bahaus Buff on the top.  I’m seeing a lot of kitchen cabinets lately, painted in two or three different colors.  Why not?!    Katy is so excited and proud of her new kitchen, as she should be! We have a full Cabinet Finishing class, this Saturday, but now’s the time to…

New Arrivals!

By Barbara Bussey | June 9, 2015 |

Greetings! I hope your week is off to a superb start!   The shop got some deep cleaning, by “yours truly”, in preparation for Google photographers, taking a virtual tour of the shop, this morning. With two Classes this week, it won’t last for long! Here’s what we’ve been up to, this past week…    A dear customer, was moving and generously donated this buffet to The Treasured Home!  We layered Amy Howard’s Toscana Paint Powder over her One Step chalk based paint.   As you may know, this is one of my favorite applications.  So much more interesting than straight chalk…

News Update, from The Treasured Home

By Barbara Bussey | June 2, 2015 |

I’m back…two days in a row!  What gives?!    Well, I’m excited to say that half of the spaces available in the Vintage Market have been reserved, by some very talented artists and treasure hunters!  I’ll share more with you, as soon as I can, but I’ve been very pleased by the interest! To make room for the vendors, we’ve been selling lots of furniture.  Yay! I’ve also done some serious space planning and number crunching and decided to significantly reduce the color selection, of the Amy Howard One-Step Paints.  Having sold chalk style paints for nearly three years, I…

Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint is Now Available in Lake Tahoe!

By Barbara Bussey | May 31, 2015 |

There’s a wonderful art collective and studio just south of the “Y”, in Tahoe City, called Salvaged, at 585 West Lake Blvd.  If you love beautifully crafted, hand made pieces and art, I hope you’ll take a look, next time you’re in the area.  Renee and Alissa are the owners and I promise you’ll love them.   Several months ago, Mr. Wonderful noticed the shop, even before I did! Since it was right on the way to our fixer-upper, I just had to stop.  During one of my visits, I told Renee about Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint and how…

Sprucing Up Our Guest/Son’s Room

By Barbara Bussey | May 11, 2015 |

Greetings! With my efforts focused on the Tahoe renovation and the shop, I haven’t had much of a chance to give our home, here in town, some love.  Last week, I found some time on my day off, to spruce up my son’s room. Guess where I shopped?  Yep, you guessed it!  If ever you come by the house, you may see a price tag, hanging from something.  Just some added charm, don’t you think? If you’re a regular at the shop, you might recognize a couple of things!  First of all, I brought the mirror home a while ago,…

Vendors Wanted at The Treasured Home’s Vintage Market!

By Barbara Bussey | April 16, 2015 |

Have you always wanted to have your own shop? After two and a half years, working to fill the shop with treasures, I’m passing the torch! Well…sort of…almost! No, I’m really not going anywhere…besides Tahoe, of course.  I’ll continue to talk paint, teach classes, do custom painting work and sell special treasures, in my original shop space. Starting soon, the new space, added a year ago, will become a collective.  It will be  a place where a variety of creative types can sell their treasures. If it’s as successful as I expect it to be, the suite next door, will join in…

Stenciling Fabric Drapes

By Barbara Bussey | April 13, 2015 |

A few years ago, I discovered the versatility of painter’s drop cloths.  They make great slip covers and curtains, just for starters.  When the shop was ready to open, I stitched a taupe velvet, to the bottom of a drop cloth and hung it as a room divider.  Got lots of “oohs and aah’s” on that one! It even has iron on brass studs!      So, today, I stenciled another set of “curtains” in the shop.  This is a new stencil we’re stocking, in a beautiful fillagre pattern.      Here they are, hung back up, once dry.  Sort of…

Meet Amy Howard, at The Treasured Home!

By Barbara Bussey | April 9, 2015 |

Since we can’t all go to Memphis, Tennessee, to learn about furniture painting, from Amy Howard, she’s coming to us, in a live streaming video class, on a big screen, at The Treasured Home! I learned so much from Amy, at her studio in Memphis and will be heading back for an advanced finishes retreat, this summer.  She is an amazingly talented, success story.  I promise you will love her!    The hands-on class is scheduled for Thursday, April 30th, from 4 to 6 p.m., PST.  (Don’t be confused by the Central Standard Time, mentioned on the invitation above!) The…
