Calling All Lamp Lovers March 31, 2012

Greetings, sweet cherubs!,

We have a number of antique lamps here at the Treasured Home. Well, officially, they may not be antiques (100 years old) because electric light wasn’t all that common in 1912…was it?

Whether vintage or antique, a good lamp will usually outlive the shade that came with it. Often you’ll be able to find a replacement shade that looks great at your local Lamps Plus. Other times you have to go to more extreme measures.

Many of our old lamps came from family. I’ve been more successful with some lamps, than others, in finding the appropriate shade for these old friends.

I’m not crazy about the curve in this shade but it does the job. These are what I call over-the-top lamps!

This lamp is one of my treasures. It came from my parents home and I was told it was made by a company called Marbro. ( i just remember that the company’s name reminded me of the cigarette brand) They’re no longer in business and I doubt that I spelled the name correctly, but they made really gorgeous lamps, made to last forever. I just got the lamp shade back from a woman who re-makes lampshades here in town.

If you have a shade that needs to be relined or completely recovered, you can contact Mary Maxwell at 916-783-4802. I’m sure that she would ship to you if needed, outside in the area.

This old lamp was painted and updated by a local artist and I think it’s a lot of fun.

They layered the paints and then destressed the piece for a pretty fun outcome. I tried to creat a similar effect on a lamp without success. Like many things, it’s harder than it looks.

Well, that’s all for now. Remember to take some time to just put your feet up and relax.

Cheerio!
(Did I spell that like the English do or like the cereal? Hopefully it’s all the same! Acting like I’m multi-lingual can be a lot of work!)

Barbara I am smitten with the lamps on your sideboard. What a beautiful design. They are all unique. Love the finish on the last lamp base.

It can be very difficult to find just the right shade I have had one custom made for a small desk lamp that is perfect for it.

I love that lamp with the 3 flowers on it and I love the straight sided lampshade that is on it. You are so right about finding lamps but lampshades are more difficult.

      Hi Diana,
Isn’t that a sweet little lamp? Just the perfect size for the kitchen counter. Thanks so much for saying “hi”!
