What I did on summer vacation! August 24, 2026

Hello, gorgeous!

Remember when we were 12 years old and the teacher had us write an essay on what we did on summer vacation, when we returned to school?

Being the middle of 5 kids, on an Air Force base, summer vacation was pretty basic.  After watching “I Love Lucy” and “Mr.Ed, the Talking Horse” and playing outside, my dad always had a chore list on the refrigerator door, for us, to tackle.

Life has improved since those years! I make my own chore lists now and no longer rely on my bicycle for transportation! Seriously though, life is good and having good health is something I’m so thankful for.  Things can change quickly though, so I want to cherish these times!

I was so happy that the four of us could gather for a few days in Tahoe and Truckee for some good times!

If you haven’t been to Truckee in a while, it’s a darling town, less than 2 hours from Sacramento.  We had lunch at Bar of America and did some window shopping.

This is a cute consignment shop, across from the diner, that I always enjoy taking a look in.

The next morning, Linda made a blueberry Dutch Baby, for our breakfast. Yummy! We went on walks, played board games and went to Shadyside, in Homewood, for dinner.

Afterwards, we had a Total Beauty Experience, in pursuit of eternal youth.  Not successful , but fun!

Back at home, I finally ordered new fabric, for these threadbare antique chairs. I chose the printed velvet on the left and hope it was a good choice. Fingers crossed !

Flying the friendly skies, I headed to Colorado Springs, to visit Betsy, Landi and Olivia.  What a beautiful part of the country it is and great to be with them!

Landi’s a great cook and hostess. Betsy’s a perfect assistant! We spent a rainy Saturday afternoon, teaching Landi gin rummy, which was a favorite game we used to play with mom.

In a couple days, I’ll be spending time with my grandson, James, who’s growing too quickly!

Mr.Wonderful is our Tahoe sunrise photographer and he gets some wonderful pictures!

Back at the “ranch”, I’ve been working at the shop, trying to make the most of every little nook and cranny, to bring fun new things your way! Deliveries continue to arrive, while I’m traveling. It’s sort of like Christmas in August and I can’t wait for you to take a look!  It’s still a work in progress, but I love the warm fall hues going on!

Mark your calendars!

Well, that’s all for now, kids! I hope your summer days are relaxing and love filled!

Until we meet again,

XO,

Barbara
