6:33 a.m., Diary of a Blogger March 21, 2012
Oh, top of the morning to y’all! I’ve just finished visiting my new girlfriends here in blog-land. They’re country types, and it leaves me feeling like I should be talkin’ that way!
It’s only 6:33 in the morning. I’ve been up since 5:04 and immediately started worrying about a file I’ve miss-placed! I knew i wouldnt go back to sleep. My sub-conscious mind must have told me to wake up and start looking! Instead, I’m having coffee, visiting my blog-friends, sitting in bed.
It all started when I signed up for The Haven conference for bloggers, in Atlanta, in June. Sure, I could have gone to a get-together, here, out west, but that would have been simpler, so forget that! Actually, I did attend the Design Blogger’s Conference in Los Angeles last year, but that was packed with a bunch of fancy-pants interior designers and it was L.A., so all-in-all, not a good mix for me. I’m looking forward to meeting “real” women in Atlanta and hope some of my west-coast blogging neighbors will be making the trek with me.
So, going to The Haven, I thought I’d get to know some of the women putting on the show, and found Rhoda, at Southern Hospitality, who’s blog I’m now following.
I was just reading her story about how she tore out her nasty stair carpet and painted the wood beneath and installed a runner, all by herself. She did a great job and I can really relate because I truly hate our stair carpet. No matter how many times a year it’s cleaned, white carpet on stairs is a really bad idea. White carpet anywhere, is a really bad idea. Just this morning, I spilled coffee on the formerly white carpet by my bed. Not good! Mr. Wonderful heard me rumbling and asked if he could do anything to help. I of course said “get me hard wood floors!”.
Back to Southern Hospitality, I’m reading her blog and she starts talking about “the ranch” and I dig a little deeper to find out the ranch belongs to Rea, her husband and four (4) kids! She is wonder woman and writes a blog called The Pioneer Woman. I thought Rhoda had a big blog following (in the thousands), until I came across Rea’s blog. Can you imagine a blog with 547 comments!? I don’t even have 547 subscribers! This woman can do it all, or so it seems.
Which leads me back home. I have no kids at home. I have a sweet husband-partner who helps out around the house and I still feel overwhelmed. Maybe if I spent less time reading about the lives of others and got busy, I wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed.
It’s now 7:04 a.m. I’ve been up for 2 hours and I’m going to set my iPad down and get on with the day! Off to look for that file. Wish me luck!
Hi, Barbara! So happy you are coming to Haven and yes, you will meet REAL women bloggers who are normal and down to earth. No fancy-pants designers at Haven! I see you have been bit by the blog bug too, you will be overwhelmed with all that you’ll find in blogland. And inspired, it’s a great community of women out there. It’s changed my life in huge ways!! Looking forward to meeting you at Haven.
Hi Barbara. I have been following Rhoda’s blog for a while now. She seems like such a nice real person. Her blog is one of my favorites. I wish I could go to the Haven conference. There are many bloggers I follow featured and they all seem so nice and genuine. It won’t work for me this year, but maybe next year. Good luck with your search and can’t wait to hear about the conference.
Well, I’m sure you’ll get a full report from me! Maybe next year. Coming from Canada is quite a trek and if your kids are still at home, it’s really hard to get away. Thanks so much for saying hello this morning. I really appreciate it!
This is too funny, Barbara – not exactly the way you want to start the day. Love Rhoda and her blog. Know you will have a great time at the conference in Atlanta – such a fun city!!
Hello and thanks so much for stopping by and saying hi! Yes, I’m looking forward to meeting Rhoda. Wonder who else might be attending from the west coast.
Barbara, this all sounds familiar. This morning I woke up thing I have got to get the rest of the info to my tax lady…and what am I doing? Drinking coffee in my robe and blogging!! Ha! There must be a definition of a blogger that is somewhat Universal!
xoxo

It’s an addiction…glad I’m in good company!
Morning and night…just any time I can fit it in. Such is the life of a blogger. I used to have more time for commenting…I still want to maintain that level but just cannot…Because I’m really a designer first, and a blogger second. It has been great for my business. Welcome!
Yes, you do have to take care of those pesky clients! 🙂 It’s so easy to lose track of time in the blog world. It’s all a balancing act!
