Sprucing Up Our Guest/Son’s Room May 11, 2015
Greetings!
With my efforts focused on the Tahoe renovation and the shop, I haven’t had much of a chance to give our home, here in town, some love. Last week, I found some time on my day off, to spruce up my son’s room.
Guess where I shopped? Yep, you guessed it! If ever you come by the house, you may see a price tag, hanging from something. Just some added charm, don’t you think?
If you’re a regular at the shop, you might recognize a couple of things!
First of all, I brought the mirror home a while ago, as I updated a display at the shop. I love the finish I put on this mirror. It was the first time I ever used red pigment powder, along with light and dark wax. Used sparingly, red pigment powder, mixed with light wax, adds just the right shading, for a piece, with this much detail.
The little chair with the cane backing, didn’t spend long at the shop, once it was painted and Nancy had made a new chair pad. It’s just the perfect size for a bedroom. (I made the insert to the decorative window, a while ago. It’s just a make-do effort to keep the western sun from heating up the room.)
See what I mean about price tags?
This Moroccan hand made silk rug, was found at a rug dealer’s shop in Marrakesh. I just love the color and simplicity of the pattern. It replaces a much darker wool Persian rug, that is much more suited for Tahoe.
The bed quilt is called a Kanva Cloth quilt. In Indian, Kanva means scrap, or so I was told. There, they have “quilting bees”, where the women quilt together fabrics and when necessary, they patch the quilts, as you see above.
There are some keepsakes in the room, like this box, that belonged to my mother. It still has her safety pins and holy card inside.
Oh, and this framed quilt, my sister Marianne, made for Andrew.
Well, that’s the long and short of it. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
Oh I love the room Barbara, from that gorgeous keepsake box of your mom’s to the cute quilt block that your sister made…lots of items of sentiment. Love the things you brought from the shop, especially the chair!….Been searching for a similar one!….Beautiful room that you so lovingly transformed!
Good morning, Shirley! Thanks for stopping by! Are you and the girls going to Luckett’s market this year? I know that’s a long drive, but for your sake, I hope the hubs has some business to take care of there! Wish I could go! ☺️ hugs, Barbara
I’ll bet you are busy, between the shop and the Tahoe house! Guest room looks wonderful…love the small touches like your Mom’s box…very beautiful! Is that a kimono I spy above the bed? I think you should keep the chair…it fits the room! Enjoy your day! 😉
Good morning Donnamae,
I must like it this way, because I’m the one responsible for making life so crazy. I’m envious of people with time to tend their gardens and take in an afternoon movie. I’ll get there one day…just not yet. I’m still trying to find the formula for “retail”! Now, that’s a wild animal!
Hugs, Barbara
Love the new look for the room. So many beautiful decorative ideas! Thanks for the inspiration!
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks, so much…but you are truly the inspiration factory!
Enjoy the day…I’m going to go see how you make a wooden sign and see if I can get some good tips!
