Customizing Milk Paint Colors & Trying MMS Transfer Gel July 30, 2014
One of the things I love about Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, is how you can mix your own custom colors.
These two tables were painted with:
1 T of Eulalies Sky
1 T of Luckett’s Green
2 T of Grain Sack
1/2 C of Bonding Agent
Mixed with cool water to create a beautiful minty color. Just 4 tablespoons of milk paint, with bonding agent, allowed us to apply 2 coats of paint to these two tables!
We always put 3 tablespoons of milk paint in each of our sample packs, for $6.50, by the way, so it goes a long way!
Then we tried out the new MMS Transfer Gel. You start out with an image, that’s printed on a laser printer. It could be a photo you’ve taken yourself, or an image you buy, or get for free at The Graphics Fairy. Go to the images for furniture and you find reversed images, used for this purpose.
After painting your piece of furniture, apply the transfer gel to the laser printed image. Place the image, face down on the furniture, working any air bubbles out. Leave the gel covered image and paper on the piece for 24 hours. Then spray the paper with water. Once saturated, pull/roll the paper off of the surface. This is the most challenging part. I removed the last paper remnants off of the surface, with fine sand paper. The first time I tried it, I did a wet sanding over the transferred image, with hemp oil, which started to blur/remove the image…so don’t do what I did! A clear poly might be the best finish, when using Transfer Gel.
It’s always fun to try something new!
In August, we’ll have a sale of these three milk paint colors, Grain Sack, Luckett’s Green and Eulalie’s Sky, so you can make your own custom Minty color! 3 Sample Bags (1 Eulalies’s Sky, 1 Grain Sack and 1 Luckett’s Green) for $15.00…a $5.85 savings! August 1st-31st, here, on line, or at our new Etsy shop!.
I’ve got tons more to share with you, about new goodies in the shop, that we’re giving make-overs to…along with photos of a “new” red brick fireplace, I painted with milk paint…so stay tuned!
Last but not least, there are still a few spots left, for Saturday’s Paint Your Own Piece, using MMS Milk Paint class, 1-4 p.m., , for $59.00. Come join us!
Hi Barbara
I’m very intrigued with the new transfer gel….oh the possibilities!!
I may have to try that soon!
Linda
It is fun! I understand that some that larger images printed at the copy shop, for very little $$$.
Barbara, tell me about that pair of beautiful French chairs. Are they for sale?
They are old, given the nail holes I see underneath. They’ve been recovered in burlap, but are very comfy. They are priced at $675 each and belong to Patti, who works at the shop. I think that there’s a little wiggle room if you like them!
