Gold Leaf Projects, Part 2 January 4, 2014

If you joined me on my gilding. Saga Part 1, here is part 2, in the gilding process.

I had applied the bole (rust colored paint). Today, I applied the size, (glue) and then the gold leaf, followed by dark wax.

My soul sister Amy Howard, showed us a simple way to apply the very delicate gold leaf.  This is a good thing, because I see a lot of gold and silver leaf in my future!  (Yes, I’m psychic!)

Work with a vacuum close by, because you”ll want to keep the gold leaf out of your toaster!

If you don’t care for little bits of the bole showing through, you can always apply a second coat of leaf.  I happen to like the bole peaking through.

Once I got the top edge of the table finished, I found that I needed to add a bit of gilding to the legs.

Isn’t she cute?

Even my finial Is looking pretty sexy, don’t you think?

You don’t think sexy is the right word? I think I have to agree.

Yes, gold leaf application will be covered, at our Introduction to Furniture Painting class, that is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th and Thursday night, January 23rd.  Hope to see you there!

Now let’s see, what else can I add a little leaf to?…

I love guilding! Try saving all your remnants in a container. A mix of all the different ones will make a great guilder piece.
